Our Mission
Message from founder Valerie Martin:
“The seed for Vegan & Vibrant was originally planted with an excited thought after attending my first VegFest in 2017: ‘What if I had a whole separate therapy website just dedicated to reaching vegan folks who want support from a therapist who GETS it?’
Fast forward through many iterations of that original website (“Val the Vegan Therapist”) and various related projects, and 5 years later, I had a lightbulb moment:
It’s time for this to be way bigger than me.
I get more inquiries from vegans looking for support than I alone could possibly help. I wondered— what if I take my name out of it, and create a collective of vegan therapists, coaches, and other mental health allied professionals who people seeking support can find in one place? More than just a directory, we want to offer a nourishing corner of the internet for vegans seeking to improve their mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Vegan & Vibrant will surely continue evolving, especially as other professionals come on board— and we would love to hear what kinds of offerings you’d like to see from providers/professionals who are part of the collective.”
peace & piglets,
xx Val
Does it really matter if your therapist* is vegan?
(or spiritual mentor, life coach, yoga instructor, dietitian, etc.)
Not to all vegans, and if it doesn’t matter to you, that is totally okay.
But similarly to how many people who identify as Christian might prefer to work with a Christian counselor who shares a similar worldview, some folks prefer to work with healers and guides who shares similar views about the exploitation of animals and the planet, since these are issues that speak to our deepest-held values and impact our lives and choices on a day-to-day basis.
The awesome folks over at vKind call it “powering up the VegEconomy”— basically, if we can vote with our dollars and support businesses and professionals who are committed to sustainable, cruelty-free practices, why wouldn’t we?
Vegan-Specific Challenges
In addition to sharing your values about animals, vegan professionals are much better equipped to support you with challenges, concerns, and goals related specifically to veganism and animal advocacy, such as how to best take care of yourself amidst the emotional toll of activism work and the social and emotional difficulties of being vegan in a non-vegan world.
